New Gibson Auction Offers Up Rare Guitars

The auction is raising money for Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK is now accepting pre-event bids on five lots, which will go under the hammer at its invite-only Sound & Vision Guitar Auction on 22 September. 

All funds raised will go to Cancer Research UK and The five lots are as follows:

1) An acoustic guitar donated by Free and Bad Company front man Paul Rodgers. It also includes two tickets to see Rodgers at one of his UK shows, as well as an opportunity to meet him afterwards and have the guitar signed. Bids start at £1,500.

2) A special edition Fender Stratocaster owned and donated by The Shadows’ lead guitarist Hank Marvin. The guitar was presented to Marvin in 2004 to celebrate 50 years of the Fender Stratocaster. Bids start at £3,000.

3) An hour-long guitar lesson with singer/songwriter Newton Faulkner. Bids start at £300.

4) A carved Gibson SG by well-known sculptor Doug Rowell. The Gibson Foundation has donated the guitar and Rowell will work with the winning bidder to create a design of their choice and then carve the winner’s design into the guitar. Bids start at £1,000.

5) A Gibson SG painted by surreal artist Rick Garcia. The Gibson Foundation has donated the guitar, which has been designed and painted by Garcia, taking inspiration from the 50th Anniversary of the SG. The guitar is currently a work in progress and will be finished and strung by the end of the auction. Bids start at £1,000. 

To bid for the lots, simply email your maximum bid to soundandvision@cancer.org.uk by 5pm tomorrow (21 September). The bids will be fed into the bidding on the night of the event. Successful bidders will be informed after the event.

The invite-only auction is being held at the Rolls Royce Motor Cars London showroom in Berkeley Square from 6:30pm on Thursday 22 September and will also feature a live music performance.
