An astonishingly lifelike statue of late Motörhead legend Lemmy has been unveiled today (9th May) in his birthplace of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

Located in Burslem’s Market Place, the 2.25m bronze statue stands on a 3m sandstone plinth and depicts Lemmy throwing an iconic stage pose in the early 1980s.

The plinth is emblazoned with the word ‘Lemmy’ in the iconic Motörhead font and also features the band’s fearsome Snaggletooth mascot. The back of the plinth features the lyrics to the song 'Motorhead'.

Created by renowned sculptor and keen Motörhead aficionado Andy Edwards, the truly phenomenal statue was the centrepiece of a very special Lemmy Forever ceremony organised as part of Motörhead’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2025.

Thousands of fans from all over the globe soaked up the atmosphere at the all-day event in the glorious Stoke sunshine, and the Lemmy statue was unveiled shortly after 5pm.

Motörhead’s longest serving guitarist Phil Campbell placed a portion of Lemmy’s ashes inside the plinth.

Andy Edwards, who was born in Stoke-on-Trent just like his “personal hero” Ian Fraser ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister, has created a number of iconic statues throughout his distinguished career.

His previous statues include The Beatles on Liverpool’s Pier Head, The Bee Gees in Douglas, Brian Clough and Peter Taylor at Derby County’s Pride Park stadium, and Sir Alex Ferguson at Aberdeen’s Pittodrie Stadium.
