Mötley Crüe threaten legal action over new documentary
Mötley Crüe have threatened legal action over an ‘unauthorised’ documentary that has aired in the US.
Part of Reelz Channel’s Breaking The Band series, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx say the Mötley Crüe edition contains false information about their turbulent history and Neil’s acrimonious exit in 1992.
Calling Reelz Channel the “bottom of the barrel”, Nikki Sixx said Mötley Crüe’s lawyers have sent the network a cease-and-desist letter and he vowed that “further action will be taken.”
He added: “Should @ReelzChannel be liable for putting out shows without so many artist approval? I am very disappointed that they think they can tell our LIFE story just to sell advertising (mostly incorrect) and without any bodies permission.”

In a scathing review of the documentary, Vince Neil wrote on Instagram: “Breaking The Band, f***ing memories from a manager Doug Thaler who can't remember that he's the one who actually broke up the band!
“The band didn't break up because of me racing. It broke up because he was too much of a pussy who didn't just say, 'Hey guys, let's take a week off and come back with cooler heads.' He called me an hour later and said I was out of the band! Great management!"
Neil added: "What he didn't say was, instead of me going racing I put out a top 10 single with 'You're Invited' — oops he forgot! Then an album called 'Exposed' — oops, forgot again! No wonder he was fired shortly after."

After Neil exited the group, he returned four years later after Mötley Crüe released a self-titled 1994 album with John Corabi on vocals.
Other acts with documentaries in the Breaking The Band series include the Eagles, Van Halen and Guns N’ Roses.
Mötley Crüe’s fully endorsed biopic The Dirt – based on their infamous 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band – debuted on Netflix in March.
