Mike Myers reportedly negotiating a role in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody

Hollywood based website Deadline claims that Myers is negotiating a role in the Bryan Singer directed film, which began shooting in London earlier this month.

Deadline offers no details on exactly who Myers will be playing, however, since the story broke this morning numerous fans have suggested he would be a perfect fit for Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker.

If the report turns out to be true, it will, of course, be Mike Myers’ second association with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

Mike’s 1992 comedy hit Wayne’s World revived the popularity of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in America when it featured in the famous head banging scene in Garth Algar's (played by Dana Carvey) AMC Pacer.

Although the movie hit cinemas three months after Freddie Mercury’s death, the legendary singer saw a preview tape of the scene and loved it.  

“Mike (Myers) gave me a tape which I took 'round to Freddie and played to him,” Brian told Rolling Stone.

“Freddie loved it. He just laughed and thought it was great, this little video. The funny thing was, we always regarded the song as tongue in cheek ourselves. If it would come on the radio, we would all be headbanging when it came to the heavy bit as well, us as a group. It was very close to our sense of humour.”

Director Penelope Spheeris and producer Lorne Michaels originally wanted the Guns N’ Roses to be played during the scene but Mike Myers threatened to quit if ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ wasn’t included.

“At one point I said to everybody, ‘I'm out. I don't want to make this movie if it's not Bohemian Rhapsody’,” Mike told Rolling Stone.

“I just love the song. It's ballsy that it's that long. It's ballsy that it's two songs in one, that's it's opera. Then when it kicks in, it's just such a fantastic release. I didn't think of another possibility.”

Last week Brian May unveiled the first photo of actor Rami Malek portraying Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

The 36-year-old American actor can be seen throwing an iconic Freddie pose in a recreation of Queen’s legendary performance at Live Aid at London’s Wembley Stadium on 13th July 1985.

The long-gestating film tells the story from Queen’s embryonic days in 1970 through to arguably their defining set at Live Aid, six years before Freddie’s untimely death. Roger and Brian serve as executive producers on the movie.

Following Rami's unveiling earlier this year, actors Ben Hardy (as Roger Taylor), Joe Mazzello (John Deacon) and Gwilym Lee (Brian May) were recently cast as Queen’s other members.
