LISTEN: Mick Jagger and John Fogerty release songs with country singer Brad Paisley

Co-written by the pair, Sir Mick’s collaboration ‘Drive of Shame’ is a strutting country number that sees the pair bounce vocals off each other after a (slightly cringey) spoken word intro.

Thematically echoing Creedence Clearwater Revival’s timeless anti-war anthem ‘Fortunate Son’, John Fogerty’s collaboration ‘Love and War’ is much weightier in subject matter with lines like: “And they say all is fair in Love and War / But that ain't true, it's wrong / They send you off to die for us / Forget about you when you're done.”

Both songs appear on Paisley’s current album ‘Love and War’ that also features a song called ‘Gold All Over the Ground’ penned by the late-great Johnny Cash.

The Jagger/Paisley collaboration came about after the country star joined The Rolling Stones on stage in Philadelphia in 2013 to perform ‘Dead Flowers’ and again in Nashville in 2015. Having struck up a friendship, Paisley invited Jagger to his Nashville farm to write and record a track.  

A huge Stones aficionado, Paisley commented: "I've been ripping the Rolling Stones off with every song I write in some form or another. We're all ripping them off, every artist who's ever played anything near what they do."

Reflecting on their studio time, he added to Rolling Stone: “You try not to freak out the first time Mick comes through your speakers and he sounds like every record you ever grew up playing."
