Metallica share professionally filmed video of the live debut of ‘Hardwired’

The band played their first headline show since unveiling details of their tenth studio album ‘Hardwired… To Self-Destruct’ at thje Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday night (20th August) and played ‘Hardwired’ as their first encore track.

Curiously, ‘Hardwired’ was the only new track to feature in the 19-song setlist that boasted the likes of ‘One’, ‘Master of Puppets’, ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ and their traditional cover of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’.

In a fresh interview with Rolling Stone, Lars Ulrich has explained how playing their 1983 debut ‘Kill ‘Em All’ in its entirety at Detroit’s Orion Festival in 2013 had a profound influence on ‘Hardwired… To Self-Destruct’.

“That was the first time I really got into that record,” Lars said. “Early on, I was dismissive of that record because Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets may be a little more intellectually stimulating and challenging – they were deeper records – and it wasn't until 2013 when we played it that I realized Kill 'Em All had a cohesiveness.

“It had its own thing with the speed, but it's simpler – the songs are longer but not quite as progressive. It's a world all its own. And I think there are some elements of that that rubbed off into this. I'd say there's a trace of residue from rediscovering Kill 'Em All that crept into the songwriting (on the new album).”

‘Hardwired… To Self-Destruct’ is released across the globe on Friday 18th November.
