Metallica / Rush Heading For Space

Help NASA decide the soundtrack to their latest mission

Songs by Metallica and Rush are amongst the candidates to be the "wake-up” songs played on the final missions by Nasa’s STS-133 mission.

STS-133 is the 35th shuttle mission to the International Space Station by the Discovery and, as is tradition, the astronauts aboard the ship will be woken by music each day of their journey.

And to commemorate the final couple of missions for the Discovery NASA have opened up the choice of songs to the public.

They’ve shortlisted 40 songs used on previous missions and now the public can vote on the songs they want the astronauts to hear in the morning.

Currently Rush and the Star Trek theme tune are leading the way, while Steppenwolf’s ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ is also in the running.

If you’re a musician you may also be interested in the fact that NASA are welcoming submissions of original songs that they could use on their space missions.
