Metallica Guitarist Underway With Autobiography

Kirk Hammett to tell his life story

Metallica’s Kirk Hammett has revealed that he is to start writing his autobiography.

The guitarist, who replaced Dave Mustaine in Metallica in 1983, revealed to Ultimate Guitar magazine that he would be working on the book over the next year.

"It feels like I'm making a solo album because it is so much work!" Hammett tells Ultimate Guitar. "I don't have a band I can rely on or seek support. So I think once I do this book thing, I may start considering doing a solo album, but I don't know - Metallica is my home and I have no intentions of running away"

Metallica wrap up their Death Magnetic world tour in Melbourne on 21 November. The band have been touring consistently since the release of their last studio album in September 2008.

Bassist Rob Trujilo recently revealed that the band almost have "too many” ideas for new material, so we may not need to wait another five years for a new album.

"Whereas most bands, as they get into a certain place in their careers, they almost lose that drive and that motivation to create, to where sometimes they even have to hire outside writers. But that's completely nonexistent in this band; it's almost like sometimes there's too much great stuff, which is a great blessing to have that, a good fortune. But it's very exciting for us. I almost feel — at least for me personally — that 'Death Magnetic' is kind of a launchpad into what we can be doing and what we will be doing.”
