Metallica release their two Download Festival headline sets as live albums
Their triumphant performances have been immortalised
Last updated 20th Jun 2023
Metallica have immortalised their two triumphant headline performances at Download Festival earlier this month by releasing them as live albums.
James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett headlined the hallowed turf of Donington Park on Thursday 8th and Saturday 10th June as part of the first European leg of their M72 World Tour.
Each respective location on the global trek sees band perform two completely different setlists over two nights.
Both glorious Download Festival concerts are now available to purchase from Metallica’s official website livemetallica.com on a variety of digital formats (MP3, Lossless, and HD Audio) together with good old-fashioned CD.
Metallica’s pair of M72 World Tour concerts in Amsterdam, Paris and Hamburg have previously been made available to download, with the Gothenburg Ullevi Stadium shows from over the weekend coming soon.
“The M72 Tour made a stop on the hallowed grounds of Castle Donington for the 20th anniversary of the Download Festival and both nights are available for, well, download,” Metallica wrote.
“The sets included a healthy dose of new songs from 72 Seasons mixed in with tracks from all 40+ years of Metallica; order both nights from one city on any of the tour stops to receive a 20% discount.”
Alongside the live albums, Metallica have shared official live footage of three songs from Download Festival – ‘Leper Messiah’ and ‘Harvester of Sorrow’ from night one, and ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ from night two.
