Metallica cover Pink Floyd's 'Run Like Hell' to celebrate David Gilmour's 73rd birthday
Metallica celebrated David Gilmour’s 73rd birthday yesterday (Wednesday 6th March) by covering the Pink Floyd classic ‘Run Like Hell’.
The heavy metal titans were playing at the Sprint Center in Kansas City when guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo launched into a version of ‘Run Like Hell’ during their traditional light-hearted ‘doodle’ section of the set.
Trujillo told the capacity crowd: “We want to celebrate David Gilmour. It’s his birthday today… from Pink Floyd. 73 years old. Let’s have some fun with this; this is for David Gilmour!”

Back in January, David Gilmour announced he is auctioning more than 120 of his iconic guitars, including his fabled Black Strat, to raise money for charity.
The David Gilmour Guitar Collection auction takes place at Christie’s in New York on Thursday 20th June 2019 with all proceeds from the sale going directly to UK and global charities.
Before going under the hammer in June, the full collection will go on display in London at Christie’s King Street from 27th to 31st March.
Meanwhile, Metallica play two massive stadium shows at Manchester Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 18th and London Twickenham Stadium on Thursday 20th June with special guests Ghost as part of their Worldwired Tour.
