Metallica Break Audience Records Down Under
Metal giants pull in the punters in their first Australian tour for six years
Metallica have broken audience figures for an arena performance in Australia.
The metal giants played to 74,244 fans over four nights at Sydney's Acer Arena in September and November, according to Billboard.
The band broke the record of 66,247 held by Britney Spears since last year.
The band returned to Australia for the first time since 2004
"It's a fantastic tribute to Metallica, as they approach 25 years since their first Australian tour, that they enjoy such an incredible level of support," comments Michael Coppel, promoter for the Australasian leg of the group's World Magnetic Tour. "They are one of the greatest live bands ever, and I'm sure everyone who has seen them on this tour will attest to that."
Metallica finished their World Magnetic Tour in Melbourne last week after just over two years of live shows. It’s thought that they will take a break for a few months before they either reconvene to record a new album or take their "big four” tour on the road with Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax.
This week the band also release new eight track live EP Six Feet Down Under Pt.2 via their own online store.
