Metal Conference Comes To The Midlands

The world\'s first \"metal conference\" to take place next month

Published 4th Aug 2011

The Home Of Metal Weekender has been announced with a whole host of metal-related activities running from 1-4 September across The Midlands.

Metal Hammer reports that the event will feature some of the world's leading academics and 'metallectuals' at the UK's first International Heavy Metal Conference as well as a 'Metal on Film' programme.

For the kids there will be a range of family activities at all venues involved including activities like studded wrist band making and backstage pass making as well as a cardboard guitar workshop. And if they get bored with that they could always check out the 'Bat out of Hell' bat walks, blacksmithing demonstrations with a live brass band and the chance to make an interactive digital sculpture and pose for a metal photoshoot.

The region will host a range of club nights, concerts and other events including a Silent Metal Disco, Heavy Metal Bingo, live music from the excellent Gentleman's Pistols and an original solo exhibition from former Turner Prize nominee Mark Titchener.

The Home of Metal Weekender will close the Home of Metal 2011 summer programme, a series of 13 high-profile metal-based exhibitions that are currently taking place across Birmingham and the Black Country.

A documentary will also screen on Sky Arts One at 16.30 on 31 August.
