Megadeth's Dave Mustaine issues heartfelt message to fans after cancer diagnosis
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has released a short video message thanking his family, friends and fans for their support since he revealed his throat cancer diagnosis last week.
57-year-old Mustaine announced last Monday (17th June) that he has already commenced treatment for throat cancer and his doctors have “mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate.”
In his video message posted last night, Mustaine said: "Hi. I wanted to take a moment real quick and thank my family, my friends and the best fans in the world for all of your support and love the last few days. We're gonna beat this thing together.”
Megadeth have cancelled all their upcoming touring commitments except for their inaugural Megacruise in October where they will appear in some capacity.
Despite his diagnosis, Mustaine is continuing to work on Megadeth’s sixteenth studio album.
Drummer Dirk Verbeuren shared a photo of Mustaine in the studio yesterday and wrote: “Dave Mustaine working on #megaalbum16 like a true warrior. Let's keep Dave and his family in our thoughts.”
Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has also praised Mustaine as “a warrior” and “a fighter.”
The bassist said: “Dave and I have been through our share of the sh*tshow: Ups and downs, drug addictions, breakups and makeups and everything else in between. This is another one.”
