Lynyrd Skynyrd founder Gary Rossington undergoes heart surgery

The Southern rock icons released a statement last night (13th August) revealing that 67-year-old Rossington underwent a surgical procedure on 31st July to repair a “leaky heart valve.”

Rossington, who previously suffered a heart attack in October 2015, had been experiencing fatigue and other symptoms related to the leaky heart valve before the surgery two weeks ago.

Fortunately, Lynyrd Skynyrd have confirmed the surgery was a success and Rossington is expected to make a full recovery.

To allow Rossington time to recuperate, the band have postponed their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour dates in Las Vegas, Nevada and Wheatland, California this coming weekend.

Friday’s show at the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena will now take place on 18th October, while Saturday’s gig at at Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland has been rearranged for 19th October. Bad Company will remain as co-headline special guests in Las Vegas.

Lynyrd Skynyrd says: “We all appreciate the well wishes for Gary and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. But he can’t wait to come back and perform at 100% for the fans. We will see you all soon!”

Lynyrd Skynyrd played their farewell UK shows in Glasgow, Manchester, London and Birmingham back in June with special guests Status Quo.
