Long Lost Sabbath Tracks To Be Released

Much bootlegged Ray Gillen tracks to see light of day on Eternal Idol and Seventh Star reissues

The Black Sabbath reissue machine continues in October with a pair of particularly intriguing expanded editions.

The albums Seventh Star and The Eternal Idol are to receive the deluxe reissue treatment, but what makes these of real interest to Sabbath fans – particularly in the case of The Eternal Idol – is that the long lost, much bootlegged Ray Gillen version of 'Idol is to be included in the package.

Black Sabbath News reports that Tony Iommi has finally given his blessing for the unreleased tracks to finally see the light of day after 23 years in the vaults. (The story goes that Ray Gillen was recruited to record the vocals for Eternal Idol after replacing Glenn Hughes on tour. Gillen left shortly after the recording sessions started to form Badlands, and Tony Martin was subsequently brought in to rerecord all of the vocals on the album).

Seventh Star, meanwhile, will be expanded to include a second disc containing a live concert recorded on 2 June 1986 featuring Gillen on vocals.

Both albums are due for reissue on 25 October.
