The latest offshoot from their upcoming album ‘Easter Is Cancelled’, ‘Heart Explodes’ is described as an “almighty mini-rock opera” that deals with “a multitude of heartfelt emotions reflecting the hardships, struggles and changing relationships of life.”

Elucidating further, frontman and orator-in-chief, Justin Hawkins, says: “(‘Heart Explodes’) is about the despair of change.

“Having to reappraise your life and what you're holding on to. It’s like that feeling when you just want to go for a swim and keep going. Wanting to be enveloped by something that will gradually pull you down.

“If you really, really want to survive that process, you can. We've all been there - people who say they haven't are lying.”

The Darkness’ axeman Dan Hawkins comments: “The difference between the Darkness’ sadness and other bands’ sadness is that we don’t wallow in it. Even when it’s sad, there’s a playfulness to it.”

The premiere comes as The Darkness prepare to support Ed Sheeran on his six outdoor homecoming shows, which kick off at Leeds Roundhay Park tonight (16th August).

‘Heart Explodes’ is the follow-up to the rip-roaring previous single and ‘Rock And Roll Deserves To Die’, which also opens ‘Easter Is Cancelled’.
