LISTEN: Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi pens choral work for Birmingham Cathedral

Tony Iommi has written a choral arrangement for Birmingham Cathedral to celebrate peace, harmony and the place of worship’s role in the city.

A far cry from Iommi’s trademark fearsome heavy metal sounds with Black Sabbath, the five-minute arrangement entitled ‘How Good It Is’ centres on, erm, heavenly guitar work before the cathedral’s choir add some angelic voices into the mix.

Tony worked with his friend the Dean of Birmingham, the Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, on the project and said he got involved to “give something back” to his beloved home city.

The lyrics are inspired by the bible passage Psalm 133 and are performed by Birmingham Cathedral Choir.
