Lemmy memorial statue to be unveiled at Rainbow Bar & Grill
Lemmy Kilmister’s favourite drinking establishment Rainbow Bar & Grill will unveil their statue of the late Motörhead legend next month.
The famous bar on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood will host a ceremony on Wednesday 24th August at 7pm where the life-size cast bronze statue of Lemmy will be revealed to the public.
The creation of Los Angeles based artist Travis Moore, the statue stands at just over 6ft tall and will be housed in the patio bar area of the venue.
Moore originally created the statue as an 18-inch model, which was then transferred to a life-size sculpture.
The $23,000 needed to create the statue was raised via a fundraising campaign created by organiser Katon De Pena of Hirax fame.
He said in January: "Lemmy was dedicated to us - now is our chance to say 'thank you.' Travis will create the best Lemmy sculpture on the planet."
Steeped in rock n’ roll history, everyone from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Mötley Crüe, Led Zeppelin to Alice Cooper and Keith Emerson to Elvis Presley have regularly frequented the Rainbow Bar and Grill since it opened in 1972.
Rainbow took their name from the venue, while it also featured in three Guns N’ Roses videos ‘November Rain’, ‘Estranged’ and ‘Don't Cry’ plus Motörhead also filmed ‘Rock Out’ there.
When in Los Angeles and not on tour, Lemmy was an almost daily visitor to the bar during the final decades of his life.
A memorial service was also held at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on 9th January, two weeks after Lemmy’s untimely death.
