Lemmy Helps Out On Haiti Charity Single

The Liverwire Music Project in Saltash has put together a brand new single to raise money for Haiti, and they've called in some famous friends to lend a hand. The single, a cover of Girlschool's 'Emergency', features not only Girlschool but also Lemmy and Whitesnake's Rudy Sarzo along with 25 musicians from the Livewire project.

The project was the brainchild of Livewire worker Andy Rance, who is pretty well connected in the music industry.

"It's been a long old journey," says Andy, "which started when we heard about the earthquake disaster in Haiti and wondered if there was anything we could do to help.

"There were a few poppy charity singles released for the cause at the time, but we all love our rock music at Livewire, so decided to do something more along those lines."

"Girlschool sent us their contribution and our engineers started putting things together in the studio. The great thing with technology nowadays is that you don't all have to be in the same room at the same time."

Another contact via Lemmy's former management saw the metal rock icon get on board.

"He may look a bit scary on stage, but he has a big heart," says Andy. "He recorded his vocal part in LA and couriered it to us! Then Rudy did the bass track and that was added in."

The single is released on 25 February in all good download stores. The proceeds will go to help rebuild a school in Haiti.

Livewire is a youth music project for young people aged 13 to 21.

The Livewire Youth Project is a registered charity (Registered Number 300632) and has been situated on the banks of the River Tamar in Saltash since the 1940s.

Over the years Livewire has worked in partnership with young people to transform into the South West's leading and award winning youth music and performing arts project.
