Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones starts new project Sons of Chipotle
Former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has started a new musical project called Sons of Chipotle.
The project sees John Paul Jones join forces with acclaimed Finnish cellist Anssi Karttunen and they’re billed as covering “an uncommonly vast area of the musical map.”
Sons of Chipotle will make their live debut when they play four shows at the Pit Inn in Tokyo on Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th September. There will be two performances each day.
The quartet of concerts will feature Jones on piano and electronics, and Karttunen on cello and electronics. Performing with them will be Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist Otomo Yoshihide and solo artist and former Sonic Youth member Jim O'Rourke.
A statement on John Paul Jones’ official website reads: “It is incredibly rare to find two of the finest musicians in the world performing in such an intimate setting for what will be a series of remarkable concerts.
“Both musicians are known to be curious minds, always ready to learn and to discover. When they improvise, borders disappear, they are free to migrate beyond prejudices, across continents. In a world where walls are being built and people are told where they cannot go, Sons of Chipotle want music to be a place of openness.”
Tickets for the two Japanese shows go on sale on Sunday (28th July) at 10am local time.
