KISS pay tribute to Eric Carr on 30th anniversary of his death
The drummer died from heart cancer
KISS have paid tribute to their late drummer Eric Carr who died exactly 30 years ago today (24th November).
Eric Carr, real name Paul Charles Caravello, passed away from heart cancer aged 41 on 24th November 1991, the same day Queen legend Freddie Mercury also died.
Carr joined KISS in 1980 following the departure of band co-founder Peter Criss and took on The Fox persona. He remained with KISS until his death in 1991 and appeared on seven studio albums from 1981’s ‘Music from "The Elder"’ through to 1989’s ‘Hot in the Shade.’
Honouring Eric Carr today, KISS have shared a montage of photos of the drummer. They wrote: “Thirty years ago today, our friend Eric Carr passed away after losing his battle with cancer.
“He was a ferocious drummer with a gentle spirit. We all miss and remember Eric for his devotion to his fans and friends.”
KISS also posted a video of an Eric Carr drum solo at The Palace Of Auburn Hills in Detroit in October 1990 during their Hot in the Shade tour showcasing his prowess behind the kit.
Carr performed his last concert with KISS just one month later at New York’s world famous Madison Square Garden.
Despite his ill health, Carr appeared in the music video for ‘God Gave Rock and Roll to You II’ in mid-1991 from the soundtrack to Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.
Gene Simmons later remarked on the Argent cover: "It's not just a cover song for a soundtrack, but a testament to Eric Carr, and I think a lot of people don't realise that."
Following Carr’s tragic death, Eric Singer became the new drummer of KISS and adopted Peter Criss’ Catman persona.
KISS’s 1992 album ‘Revenge’ was dedicated to Carr and the last track, the instrumental ‘Carr Jam 1981’, was a demo he recorded a year after the joined the group.
