KISS to play show at 'the coldest place on earth'
The End of the Road Tour is set to conclude in style
KISS bassist and co-founder Gene Simmons says the band are plotting a show at “the coldest place on earth” as part of their swansong End of The Road Tour.
Gene, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer kicked off their latest farewell tour in January 2019 and played five UK arena shows that July.
KISS had planned to officially bow out with a homecoming concert on 17th July 2021 in New York City, however the trek has now been pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. Their 2021 dates included a headline slot at Download Festival on Friday 4th June.
In an interview with Marci Wiser of US radio station 95.5 KLOS, Gene Simmons revealed KISS have another 150 shows to go and the tour will conclude with some “jaw-dropping” concerts including a gig in the “coldest place on earth.”
Asked if he believes KISS will restart their tour next year in light of Covid-19, Gene replied (via Blabbermouth): "The answer is yes. We've already booked Europe outdoors. Most of the shows have already sold out. We start in summer. The vaccines are gonna be out there for everybody, oh, by January, February, March at the latest, but we're gonna be out there a few months after that. And we've literally got a hundred and fifty cities booked."
He added: "We're going to continue this tour, which we stopped after doing a hundred and ten cities. We've got another hundred and fifty cities to go, and who knows how long, but some of the later ones are gonna be jaw-dropping. You can't imagine what we've got planned — like, beyond… I said, 'No. We can really do that?' They said, 'Yup. Yup.' The political people said we can play there. And so there's gonna be stuff that's just gonna make you go, 'That's the coolest.'
"There's one place that's the coldest place on earth. And if you can imagine us playing there with even larger pyro than you've ever seen, 'cause there's nothing around there. But that's all I'll say about it."
According to BBC Science, the coldest place on earth is Dome Fuji in Antarctica where temperatures reached -93.2°C in August 2010. Despite their snug outfits, KISS would, of course, instantly perish if they played a show at Dome Fuji at such temperatures.
The coldest permanently inhabited place is Oymyakon in Siberia, Russia where temperatures have plunged to −70°C in the depths of winter.
Metallica became the first band to perform a full concert in Antarctica in December 2013, which is the peak of summer in the Southern Hemisphere.
