Keith Richards says The Rolling Stones are gearing up to record their 24th album soon
The Rolling Stones are commencing work on their next studio record “very, very shortly”.
In a fan Q&A on his official YouTube channel, Keith Richards was asked whether the widespread success of last December’s blues covers record ‘Blue & Lonesome’ has given them the impetus to start work on a new record.
“Yeah, in fact, we are — very, very shortly,” Keith responded. “Cutting some new stuff and considering where to take it next. ‘Blue & Lonesome’ caught us a little bit by surprise in that we figured it was something we had to do, but we didn’t expect the response that it got.”
“It almost leads one into the inevitable volume 2 but I don’t think we’re going to sucker into that straight away. But it wouldn’t take a twist of the arm to do some more of that. It’s such fun to record, and there’s plenty more where that came from.”
He added: “I just think actually The Stones will use (Blue & Lonesome’s success) as a boost to their energy and their viability in this day and age and see what we can come up with next, y’know.”
If the album features brand new Rolling Stones compositions, it will be their first collection of original material since 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang’.
Earlier this month, British grime artist Skepta shared a photo of himself in the recordimg studio with Mick Jagger strongly suggesting their collaborating on material together.

The Rolling Stones are playing a series of stadiums across Europe this September and October on their ‘Stones – No Filter’ tour.
Shortly after the shows were announced, the band released a short statement on Twitter confirming UK dates are in the pipeline next year.
They wrote: “Sorry to our UK fans there are no UK dates on this run due to lack of available venues because of sporting fixtures. Hope to be here in 2018.”
