Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter officially sign on for Bill & Ted 3
Bill & Ted 3 is officially happening will Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves reprising their titular roles.
Announced at the Cannes Film Festival this week, the working title of the film is Bill & Ted Face The Music and it sees Reeves and Winter play Ted 'Theodore' Logan and Bill S. Preston, esq. respectively for the first time in almost three decades.
Screenwriting duo Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who wrote 1989’s Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and 1991’s Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, have once again written the script for the movie with Dean Parisot directing.
In a statement, Reeves and Winter said: “We couldn't be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we've got a dream team!"
The plot synopsis is as follows: “When we last met Bill and Ted they were time-traveling teenagers trying to pass history class and win the battle of the bands. Once prophesized to save the universe with their rock and roll, middle age and the responsibilities of family have caught up with these two best friends who have not yet fulfilled their destiny. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe as we know it. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, Bill and Ted find much, much more than just a song.”

Although he hasn’t been officially confirmed, it’s expected that William Sadler will reprise his role as Death in the film after he wrote ‘Have sythe, will travel’ in a tweet to Ed Solomon in February.

Reeves, Winter and Solomon have said Bill & Ted Face The Music will reference the absence of Rufus, played by the late-great George Carlin in the first two films.
Back in March, Reeves and Winter posed for a photo shoot with Entertainment Weekly where they talked up the possibility of uniting for a third instalment of the film franchise.
“The whole trajectory of getting the next one off the ground has been pretty much exactly like the experience of getting the original,” Winter told EW at the time.
“Going to every studio, and they’re like, ‘What the eff is this?’ It’s this kind of independent spirit, and the films have an anachronistic quality to them that’s a big part of what they are, fundamentally. I’m really happy that this one is the same. It doesn’t feel like some stale knockoff that a studio would have immediately gone, ‘Oh, this feels right. We have rebranded very successfully.’”
The first two Bill & Ted movies featured songs from KISS, Megadeth, Faith No More, Steve Vai, Richie Kotzen, Extreme and many more.
