Judas Priest launch mobile game ‘Road to Valhalla’

Following in the hallowed footsteps of their fellow metal luminaries Iron Maiden, Judas Priest have launched their own mobile game.

Titled Judas Priest: Road to Valhalla, the game is available via the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch from today (19th July).

The aim of the action game is to reach the mythical Valhalla by battling enemies from Priest's songs and album art along the way. Once you’ve defeated the enemies, song stems are unlocked which allow the player to create complete songs.

Seminal classics from Judas Priest’s legendary back catalogue that feature are ‘You've Got Another Thing Comin’, ‘Breaking The Law’, ‘Electric Eye’, ‘Turbo Lover’, ‘Painkiller’ and ‘Halls Of Valhalla’.

Road To Valhalla was developed by Babaroga in partnership with the band, Trinifold Management LLC UK and Sony Music Entertainment.

“Metal maniacs, are you ready to join Judas Priest on the Road To Valhalla? Your mission is to battle enemies to unlock stems and construct the classic songs from Judas Priest in this visually stunning journey of molten metal mayhem,” reads the promotional blurb.

“Judas Priest: Road To Valhalla features four action-packed levels and never before released stems from six iconic Judas Priest songs including Breaking The Law, Painkiller and You Got Another Thing Comin’.

“Throughout each level, fill ‘stem meters’ to construct the full song and advance to the next chapter of the game. The Metal God Rob Halford makes exclusive appearances to hide you on your journey to Valhalla!”

Enthusing about the music creating component of the game, Rob Halford told Billboard: “You need to have some weight there, with the music. All the songs that were incorporated are great songs.

“It's quite challenging, and it's a lot of fun. You can make it quite simple, which I choose, or some of these crazy maniacs can do extraordinary things. It's really a first for us, so we're excited to see what kind of shenanigans that fans will get up to with this particular event."

Speaking to Planet Rock in April at the Hell Bent For Leather art exhibition in London, Rob Halford told Paul Anthony Judas Priest are close to finishing their 18th studio album and are plotting a “big world tour” for 2018.

“I won’t say we’re at the end (of recording) but it feels as though we’re coming to some of the final moments," Rob said.

“It’s great to watch how a record comes together from those early days where there was just me, Glenn (Tipton) and Richie (Faulkner) sitting in the studio with a couple of guitars and just doing what we do – you start the day with nothing and then at the end of day potentially you’ve got a really great, classic Priest song that may live forever.

“We’re hard at it, we’re still doing what we love to do. Priest is a working band more than anything else, it’s that Midlands ethic, the work ethic of anybody that goes to work… I say it’s work because it is work; you work your mind, you’re being creative and now we’re moving through into other stages.

He continued: “We’re preparing for another big world tour, getting stage designs sorted, lighting designs sorted, so this is the beginning of what’s going to be a very exciting 2018 period.”
