Journey To Go Conceptual On New Record

Neal Schon has plans for new album

Journey’s Neal Schon says that the band’s new album will not only rock harder than their most recent efforts, but it may also be a concept album of sorts.

Speaking to Classic Rock Magazine, Schon revealed that the band will be starting work on the follow-up to 2008’s Revelations next month.

"Yeah, I’ve already started writing and the band will be getting together on March 25 to start work on some new songs. Arnel has got some great ideas; he’s really good with melody and lyrics. We’re going to make a rocking record. I know I keep saying this every year but this is for real now. I’ve gotten everyone together and we’ve talked about it.

"I had a long talk with Jonathan Cain, keyboards and I said: "We have all the AOR material that we need, we’ve got all the hits we need and we have to play that stuff forever. There’s no getting away from it. So I don’t see the point of repeating the same song with different chords.”

"I’m going for a conceptual record because I really feel that we have the good musicality to pull it off, and I think that right now we have everybody’s attention. I mean, there’s no radio anymore. The days of writing songs that are three-and-a-half minutes long for radio are over."
