Jon Bon Jovi restaurant to provide free meals for furloughed workers and their families

The Soul Kitchen community restaurant in Red Bank, New Jersey will open its doors from midday to 2pm for workers who haven’t been paid since parts of the US government shut down on 22nd December.

Announcing their free food pledge, JBJ Soul Kitchen wrote: “The JBJ Soul Kitchen and The Murphy Family Foundation would like to announce that the Soul Kitchen in Red Bank, New Jersey will be open on January 21 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm to provide meals for furloughed Federal workers and their families.

“In line with our mission, Federal workers are encouraged to join us for a delicious meal and to learn about additional support and resources available in our community.”

Now in its fifth week, the current shutdown is the longest in US history. The shutdown stemmed from President Trump's demand for $5.7 billion in federal funds for a U.S.–Mexico border wall, which the Democrats are against funding.

Jon Bon Jovi launched his Soul Kitchen restaurant in October 2011. The community restaurant doesn’t have prices on its menu; diners can instead pay a suggested donation or volunteer at the JBJ Soul Kitchen as their payment.

One hour of volunteer time earns a dining certificate that feeds the volunteer and up to 4 family members.
