The 84-year-old had been due to kick off his North American trek in San Diego tonight (30th May) and wrap up in Wichita, Kansas on 17th June, however a post on his official Facebook page confirmed he is currently ill in hospital.

“We are very sorry to announce that John Mayall has to reschedule his upcoming May/June shows due to needing continued medical care after a bout of pneumonia,” the statement reads.

“For those of you who have bought tickets, refunds will be available where the tickets were purchased. John loves his fans and is sorry to disappoint you, but is looking forward to seeing you soon at a venue near you. In the meantime, your prayers and good vibes are much appreciated!”

John’s former John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers band mate Walter Trout took to Twitter last night to send his friend and mentor positive thoughts.

Walter wrote: “My mentor, ex boss and dear friend John Mayall is in the hospital. He needs your prayers your thoughts and your positive energy. Mr. Mayall We love you and we are with you in this!”

The influential musician’s current imprint, Forty Below Records, wrote: “Please send all your positive energy, thoughts and prayers to our friend John Mayall who is sick in hospital now. Get well soon, John!”

Guitarist Rocky Athas, who has been a member of John’s solo band for the past decade, said: “Please send prayers of healing positive thoughts for my former band leader, John Mayall, the Godfather of British Blues, to be on the mend and return to what he loves. We look forward to seeing him on stage again soon!”

Everyone at Planet Rock wishes John a speedy recovery.
