Joe Walsh Plans To Offer Australia Advice
Eagles star wants meeting with officials to offer drink & drugs advice
Joe Walsh wants to meet Premier of Victoria John Brumby to offer his advice on tackling drink and drug problems plaguing young people.
"I'd love to speak to leaders and politicians in Melbourne, and around Australia, about addiction," Eagles guitarist Walsh told the Herald Sun.
"Addiction is a disease and, with help, people can get back to being responsible members of the community. I hope to give your leaders that message."
Walsh's offer comes as the state grapples with alcohol-fuelled violence and escalating drug use among young people.
Walsh recently spoke to New Zealand Parliament about alcohol and drug issues after an increase in binge drinking and methamphetamine use by young people.
"I went to New Zealand, and spoke about it, because I wanted to keep the young people from getting into methamphetamine," Walsh said. "I wanted to show people who were hopelessly stuck on it that there's life after addiction and it's good."
Walsh battled drink and drugs problems for much of his life, but he has been clean and sober for 17 years.
Walsh tours with the Eagles in Australia in December.
