Jimmy Page discusses claims Robbie Williams blasted Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd & Deep Purple
Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page has spoken publicly for the first time about claims that neighbour Robbie Williams played Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd & Deep Purple to annoy him.
Back in December, it emerged that Jimmy had lost his five-year planning battle with the former Take That singer after Kensington and Chelsea Council granted Williams conditional approval to build an underground swimming pool at his west London home.
The guitar legend fears excavation work on the pool will cause “catastrophic” damage to his neighbouring Grade I-listed Gothic-style mansion, Tower House.
The following month, a complaint under the name of ‘Johnny’ was submitted to Kensington and Chelsea Council claiming that Williams had been playing the music of Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd & Deep Purple loudly to purposefully upset Jimmy.
The anonymous correspondent added that Williams has also dressed up to imitate Robert Plant by "wearing a long hair wig, and stuffing a pillow under his shirt in an attempt to mock or imitate Mr Robert Plant's beer belly that he has acquired in his older age".
This is "embarrassing", the letter stated, as "Mr Plant was remembered for performing with his shirt open on stage, and obviously he cannot perform in his current condition as it would be very embarrassing".
Robbie Williams’ representatives rubbished the widely reported claims at the time, and, now, Jimmy Page has denied it too calling it an obvious “prank”.
“I did not accuse Robbie of playing loud music by Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and Deep Purple to annoy me — and of dressing in a blond wig,” Jimmy told the Press Association.
“The reality is, no such accusation has been made,” Jimmy said before saying the accusation was “presumably someone’s idea of a prank. This was much publicised at the time but does not have any basis in truth.”
And he added: “I never accused Robbie as to his personal behaviour. I would like to meet to take Robbie around the house to make him aware of what is at stake.
“My goal is to protect a Grade I listed building, with unique interiors which are in jeopardy.”
Discussing the potential meeting further, Jimmy said: “If they (Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field) are now agreeing to a meeting, they need to get in contact, as neighbours, so that discussions can take place as they should have done a long time ago.”
Page and the pop singer have been locked in a feud since Williams bought the late Michael Winner’s Kensington home for £17.5million in December 2014.
