Jack White Named Nashville Ambassador
Former White Stripes man receives hometown honour
NME reports that the former White Stripes frontman received the the first-ever Music City Ambassador Award at a ceremony in the US city on Saturday (April 16) for his contribution to music.
White was honoured for putting Nashville on the global map over the last 12 months as a result of his music career and his Third Man Records label.
He lives in the city with his wife and two children and said of the honour.
"Today's award recognises an individual who carries Nashville's diverse musical message worldwide," said Mayor Karl Dean.
"Jack White's individual talent and unique creative spirit bridges gaps between genres and generations and I couldn't be more pleased to thank him for his work on behalf of the music industry and its hometown."
"Every day we're excited to be in a city that truly fosters local music and businesses and new idea," White added. "I don't know another town whose mayor is on the board of its music council."
