Iron Maiden's Ed Force One too big to land at Dortmund Airport

We've all had this problem right?

Iron Maiden have been forced to change their travel plans for a German music festival in May as their new Ed Force One is too big for the airport.

The band previously used a Boeing 757 which could land at Dortmund Airport, however the new Ed Force One - a Boeing 747 jumbo - is too big and heavy, so the band will now land at Dusseldorf airport and use tour buses and trucks to finish the journey to Dortmund.

Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson is piloting the plane on The Book Of Souls World Tour with the band, their equipment and crew all on board. The plane is a newer version of the US President's 'Air Force One' and is of course named after Iron Maiden’s iconic mascot Eddie.

Ed Force One will be flying to Download Festival for Iron Maiden's headline performance on Sunday 12th June. The jet will be landing at nearby East Midlands Airport, so the crowds gathered at Donington Park should keep their eyes on the skies for a glimpse of its arrival!

Tickets for Download Festival are on sale right now via Planet Rock Tickets! You can see the full line-up so far below:
