According to ironmaidenlegacy.com, the official website launched for the free-to-play game, players will be able to "battle as Eddie in his many guises across worlds inspired by the rich lore and music of Iron Maiden - one of the most iconic and influential bands of all time."

The synopsis continues, "A mysterious force has shattered Eddie’s soul and scattered the shards. Travel through time and space collecting the pieces as you encounter a cast of dramatic and engaging characters.

"A powerful soundtrack enhances gameplay, using songs spanning Iron Maiden’s entire career, including previously unheard live recordings adapted for the game by engineer Tony Newton under the close scrutiny of Steve Harris."

Maiden's Steve Harris, who is overseeing the project, said: "We always thought Maiden's music and imagery with Eddie could be perfect for gaming and it's something we have been looking at doing again since Ed Hunter in 1999," he said. "Now in 2016, it can all be done on a smartphone which makes it even more accessible for all our fans and also all the gamers out there."

James Hursthouse, CEO of game developers Roadhouse Interactive added, "As a lifelong fan, I have always thought that Maiden's music, lyrics and cast of characters would provide the perfect basis for a deep RPG experience. With this game, we're creating an outstanding RPG that will appeal to all mobile gamers, including those discovering Maiden for the first time."

There's no specific release date for Legacy Of The Beast just yet, but it's expected to land in Summer 2016.

While you're waiting for it, why not download the Planet Rock app?! It is in no way the same thing, but it might fill the void for now...
