Check out more about the bike ride and Bruce Dickinson's participation below.

Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson on The Heavy Metal Truants' charity bike ride:

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson will take part in The Heavy Metal Truants’ annual charity bike ride raising money for disadvantaged children.

Each June, The Heavy Metal Truants embark on an arduous three-day charity cycle trek from London to Donington Park for the start of Download Festival.

In 2020 with Download Festival cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Heavy Metal Truants launched a virtual ride with over 400 riders from 34 countries taking part including Thunder’s Luke Morley and Planet Rock’s very own Paul Anthony.

The cyclists raised over ÂŁ200,000 last year taking the amount donated by HMT to the charities to date to over ÂŁ888,000.

With Download Festival axed for a second consecutive year this summer, The Heavy Metal Truants have organised another virtual ride for their ninth annual fundraising adventure.

Dubbed The Heavy Metal Truants Nine Lives, organisers are hoping to smash the £1 million fundraising total since the inception of the ride. All donations will be divided amongst four children’s charities - Teenage Cancer Trust, Nordoff Robbins, Childline and Save The Children.

With Iron Maiden not touring until 2022, Bruce Dickinson will take part in the charity ride this year and he is urging others to participate. He says: "The cat's out of the bag – I'm joining the Heavy Metal Truants to help raise money for these heroic children’s charities.

“With touring out the window once again, there’s no good reason why I couldn’t sign on at last and no good reason why you can’t either! I'm calling on all fans, bands and people who work behind the scenes to join me on the virtual road to Download.

“Every single penny counts for these charities who've been hit hard by the pandemic so no matter how much, or how little, you raise, by joining us you will make a difference in a child's life. Sign up today!"

Watch Bruce talk about the ride in the video below:

How to take part in The Heavy Metal Truants' charity ride:

Explaining more about how to take part, The Heavy Metal Truants write: “To make this challenge accessible to more people the event is expanding even further this year, welcoming non-cycling participants to set a new fund-raising record across a range of activities and abilities.

“We’re inviting walkers, runners, hikers, rowers and more to join Bruce and his fellow HM Truants to complete a physical challenge anywhere from 35 miles by foot all the way up to 1,000 miles by bike within the 12 day period.

“Essentially, if you can measure it, you can join – so Heavy Metal Truants are keen to hear from new recruits of all abilities and disciplines. Get in touch and suggest your own challenge and remember… if you can measure it, you can join!

“It begins on May 24th and concludes on June the 4th, which would have been the first day of this year’s Download Festival.”

Information on how to sign up can be found RIGHT HERE and if you’re unable to join the ride but would like to make a donation CLICK HERE.

Founded by Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood and journalist Alexander Milas, The Heavy Metal Truants is part of The Truants Foundation which has raised over £4 Million for children’s charities over the past 10 years.

The Heavy Metal Truants have enjoyed the backing and personal support from some of the biggest rock acts on the planet over the years, including Iron Maiden, The Who, Slipknot, Saxon, Thin Lizzy, Metallica, KISS, Def Leppard and Queen.

Download Festival headliners through the years:

Audioslave: Download Festival 2003

Proving that supergroups still remained a popular draw, this fusion of Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and the instrumental wing of Rage Against The Machine transcended their original bands to forge an identity wholly their own.
