Iggy Prompts Stage Invasion At Hall Of Fame
Plus Genesis and the Hollies turn up to collect awards
It was a night of partial reunions at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductions with some of Genesis, the remaining Stooges and half of the Hollies turning up for the ceremony.
During their performance Iggy and the Stooges prompted a minor stage invasion that consisted of members of Pearl Jam and Green Day amongst others.
The Stooges were inducted by Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong who said "They symbolize the destruction of flower power and the creation of raw power.”
Genesis were inducted by Trey Anastasio of Phish, who said of the prog legends "It’s impossible for me to overstate the impact this band had on me as a young musician and I’m forever in your debt,” he said. "When I hear Radiohead’s Kid A, with its odd time signatures and spacious visual arrangements, I hear Genesis, and I hear them in the sonic islands My Bloody Valentine plays between their songs.” As expected, Peter Gabriel was not at the ceremony with Mike Rutherford confirming the reason that the former frontman wasn't able to attend, "He has a very legitimate and genuine excuse. He’s starting a tour in Europe soon.”
And E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt was on hand to induct the Hollies, with original members Graham Nash and Allan Clarke on hand to collect their award. It’s the second time that Nash has been inducted – he was at the ceremony in 1997 when Crosby, Stills and Nash were honoured.
