Iggy & The Stooges To Record Again

Iggy Pop says a new album may be on the way after tour

Iggy Pop and his Stooges are planning to record a new album.

Speaking to Rolling Stone Iggy revealed that the band were hoping to start work on the new record when their current touring cycle comes to an end.

"James (Williamson) is already sending me new music," says Pop. "The riffs are really good. And I even did vocals for it. I try to make songs out of it, but I don't think any of it works yet.

"I'm keen to respect the integrity of the group and what it stands for so I don't want to do a new album lightly," he says. "Whatever songs we do, I want them to be better."

Iggy & The Stooges reformed earlier this year to tour their Raw Power album. The reunion followed the death of original Stooges guitarist / bassist Ron Asheton last year.

Before the Raw Power tour The Stooges did record a new album in 2007 called The Weirdness, which featured all new material - the first since Raw Power in 1973.

Before the new Stooges album, though, we’ll be getting a deluxe reissue of Iggy Pop’s 1975 post-Stooges album Kill City, which he recorded with Stooges guitarist James Williamson.

"Kill City to me was a very good minor work," Pop says. "It was an important work. It was my indie record."

Kill City will be reissued in October.
