Hex Triumph At Yamaha Rock The House Finals
The newcomers were among the winners at last week's event.
A capacity audience including key music media and MPs experienced some of the UK's most promising young bands and songwriters at the 2014 Rock The House under-19 finals, held at the Bedford in Balham last week (27 May).
Thirteen finalists, including ten bands and three solo performers, played for a judging panel of industry experts, including Planet Rock's Paul Anthony, Bedford founder and early Iron Maiden member Tony Moore and Yamaha's Joe Emsden.
Crewe-base band Hex, Leoni Jane Kennedy from Blackpool, and Telford's The Rooz emerged victorious.
The winners will receive vouchers for Yamaha equipment and will now be invited to attend the over-19 event on the Terrace of the House of Commons on 1st July.
Founded in 2010 by MP Mike Wetherley and supported by a host of celebrity patrons and brands, including Google and musical instrument giant Yamaha, Rock The House has grown to become Parliament’s biggest and most popular competition. It provides an opportunity for unsigned musicians to receive priceless media exposure and the attention of leading industry executives.
Yamaha's Nigel Burrows manages the under-19s side of Rock The House and he comments, “This year we got a glimpse into the future of the UK's next wave of great musical and songwriting talent. Yamaha is hugely proud to play a key role in this brilliant initiative and we look forward to working with the winners to ensure they get the exposure they deserve.”
Rock legend and Planet Rock presenter Alice Cooper is a patron and he comments, “Rock the House is a great project that celebrates the fantastic diversity of the British music scene.”
Other Rock the House Patrons include Brian May, Rick Wakeman, Lord Puttnam and Yngwie Malmsteen.
Finalists were selected after submitting an original composition to their local MP, who nominated them to a judging panel of industry executives.
