Hendrix Movie Lacks Hendrix Songs

But it will feature versions of tracks by the Beatles and Muddy Waters

The movie, which is called All Is By My Side, stars rapper Andre Benjamin but it is an unofficial project and has not been approved by the Experience Hendrix LLC, which runs Hendrix's estate. As a result it is not allowed to feature any Hendrix music.

However, filmmakers are dodging that seemingly large roadblock because the film focuses on the period directly before Hendrix broke in the UK, and therefore they have re-recorded Hendrix-like cover versions of the songs which the guitarist used to cover in his early days.

The film will feature Benjamin performing reinterpretations of the Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,' Waters' 'Mannish Boy,' Chip Taylor's 'Wild Thing' and 'Hound Dog,' among other songs.

"The storyline of 'All Is By My Side' focuses on the early days of Jimi's career, when his performances largely consisted of innovative interpretations of existing songs," reads a statement from Benjamin's representative. "These are the performances that got him discovered, blew everyone's minds and helped him become the icon he became."
