Hendrix House To Open Its Doors

Guitarist\'s Mayfair flat to host new exhibition

The house where Jimi Hendrix lived in central London is to open its doors to the public for a very special exhibition.

Hendrix lived at 23 Brook Street for a year until 1969 and the house, which has been knocked through into 25 Brook Street and turned into the Handel House Museum (George Frideric Handel lived there in the 18th Century), will be turned into the Hendrix In Britain Exhibition to commemorate 40 years since the guitarist died.

"We are excited to be celebrating the life of Jimi Hendrix," the director of Handel House Museum, Sarah Bardwell said in a statement. "After moving to Brook Street in 1968, Hendrix learned of the Handel connection with the building and headed to One Stop Records in South Molton Street and HMV in Oxford Street to pick up whichever records of Handel music he could find."

She added: "Clearly he was intrigued by the connection and we're pleased to be celebrating his own legacy today."

The exhibition will run from 25 August to 7 November in the main part of the museum, but between 15-26 September the part of the house where Hendrix actually lived, which are currently the offices of the museum, will be opened so that fans can get full access to the house.
