Guns N’ Roses are ‘excited’ about recording new studio album

In an interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Fortus, who has been a member of Guns N’ Roses since 2002, says the band are “excited” at the prospect of laying down new tunes.

"Everyone is excited about (recording a new album)," Fortus enthused. "There's a really magical thing now with the band. It feels like a new band. It feels like the best version since I joined, and it's the most fun for me. There's so much excitement around it."

Early last month, Fortus confirmed the band have been formulating some embryonic ideas while touring the globe on their blockbuster Not In This… Lifetime Tour.

He told the StageLeft podcast: “We haven’t started recording anything, when I say that, as far as in the studio doing an album. We’ve been recording a lot of stuff, just ideas, assembling ideas, but not going into a studio and actually tracking a new record.”

Asked if he thinks the album will come into fruition, Fortus responded: “Yeah, I do. It’s sort of too good not to happen at this point, that’s how I feel about it. This band is really a force right now, and I definitely hope that we do, and I think we’re all sort of counting on it, and we’re also planning on it.”

Heaping praise on Axl Rose in particular, Fortus continued: “I think the genius of Axl is his ability to assemble songs, from different parts, and make them feel cohesive as a song. I’ve never seen anybody able to do that in the same way.”

Guns N’ Roses’ last studio album, ‘Chinese Democracy’, was released way back in November 2008.

If and when a new record sees the light of day, it will be the first Guns N’ Roses record to feature Slash and Duff McKagan since 1993 covers album "The Spaghetti Incident?".

Last Friday (21st July), Guns N’ Roses announced they were adding a further 11 dates to their already humungous North American tour. The band have already been seen by over 1.4million people this year at their shows across the globe.
