Guns N’ Roses are ‘assembling ideas’ for a potential new album
Guns N’ Roses guitarist Richard Fortus says the rock icons are ‘assembling ideas’ for a possible new studio record.
Currently in the midst of the European leg of their Not In This Lifetime… Tour, Fortus says that although they are yet to officially hit the recording studio they’ve been laying down some embryonic ideas.
Fortus told the StageLeft podcast: “We haven’t started recording anything, when I say that, as far as in the studio doing an album. We’ve been recording a lot of stuff, just ideas, assembling ideas, but not going into a studio and actually tracking a new record.”
Asked if he thinks the album will come into fruition, Fortus responded: “Yeah, I do. It’s sort of too good not to happen at this point, that’s how I feel about it. This band is really a force right now, and I definitely hope that we do, and I think we’re all sort of counting on it, and we’re also planning on it.”
Heaping praise on Axl Rose in particular, Fortus continued: “I think the genius of Axl is his ability to assemble songs, from different parts, and make them feel cohesive as a song. I’ve never seen anybody able to do that in the same way.”
Guns N’ Roses’ last studio album, ‘Chinese Democracy’, was released way back in November 2008.
If and when a new record sees the light of day, it will be the first Guns N’ Roses record to feature Slash and Duff McKagan since 1993 covers album "The Spaghetti Incident?".
One of the highest grossing concert tours in history, Guns N’ Roses have already grossed an incredible $230million (£178million) since the Not In This Lifetime… Tour kicked off at The Troubadour in West Hollywood on 1st April 2016.
Last year alone, the band amassed gate receipts of $192million (£149million) and since then they’ve earned a further $38million (£29million) from their massive stadium shows in New Zealand and Australia in February.
Standard tickets to Guns N’ Roses' second show at London Stadium on Saturday 17th June are still available from Planet Rock Tickets now.
