Green Day have cancelled the Moscow date of their European Hella Mega Tour this summer over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Writing on their Instagram Stories, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool confirmed that the show at the 45,000-capacity Otkritie Arena on Sunday 29th May 2022 won’t be going ahead.

“With heavy hearts, in light of current events we feel it is necessary to cancel our upcoming show in Moscow at Spartak Stadium,” Green Day wrote.

“We are aware that this moment is not about stadium rock shows, it’s so much bigger than that. But we also know that rock and roll is forever, and we feel confident there will be a time and a place for us to return in the future. Refunds available at the point of purchase. Stay safe.”

Last week, the European Broadcasting Union banned Russia from the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest because of the invasion of Ukraine.

Also featuring Fall Out Boy and Weezer on the bill, Green Day’s twice postponed Hella Mega Tour is due to visit London Stadium, Huddersfield John Smith’s Stadium, Dublin RDA Arena and Glasgow Green in late June.
