The Grateful Dead are to be immortalised in video game form, according to reports.

Gibson.com reports that the legendary act are to become the stars of their own video game, and although we’re not told in what that form may be, the possibilities appear to be pretty endless.

The game is likely to feature the band’s music, live work, art and more and it might be out by summer.

"We can’t wait for everyone check out the fun new toys we are building," the band’s longtime archivist, David Lemieux, told the Wall Street Journal. Rhino Entertainment, the overseer of the Dead’s intellectual property, has entered into an agreement to ensure that everything in the game will be authentic, plus the band’s surviving members have given their approval.

While details of the game are a closely guarded secret Adam Blumenthal, the founder of game developer Curious Sense, has revealed what WON’T happen in the game. "There’s no collecting of LSD as you move around the parking lot."

The game may launch online before becoming a game for specific gaming platforms, such as the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3 or Microsoft Xbox 360.
