GNR, Heart Nominated For Hall Of Fame

Chili Peppers, Joan Jett and the Faces also get nominations

The latest batch of Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominations have been announced, with Guns N Roses nominated after becoming eligible for the first time.

They are on the shortlist for inclusions alongside Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure, the Small Faces / Faces, Eric B. and Rakim, the Spinners, the Beastie Boys, War, Donovan, Rufus with Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Freddie King and Laura Nyro.

Artists that released their their first single or album in 1986 or earlier were eligible for this year's ballot. "The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what 'rock & roll' means," said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. "From vocal groups to hip-hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

The bands from the shortlist that will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next April in Cleveland will be confirmed in the next few weeks. 

Some of the artists to be overlooked once again who have been eligible for inclusion for many years include KISS, Rush, Bon Jovi, Boston, Cheap Trick, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Peter Frampton, ELO, REO Speedwagon, Yes and Deep Purple.

Alice Cooper was amongst the inductees to the Hall Of Fame this year after several years of campaigning from his fans.
