Gilmour & Waters Reunite Onstage
Former Pink Floyd bandmates reunite for charity gig
David Gilmour and Roger Waters reunited onstage over the weekend for the first time in five years.
The former Pink Floyd bandmates played a very (VERY) rare gig together in aid of the HOPING Foundation (Hope and Optimism for Palestinians In the Next Generation).
They performed four songs before 200 guests, accompanied by Guy Pratt (on bass and acoustic guitar), Harry Waters (on keyboards), Andy Newmark (on drums), Chester Kamen (on guitar) and Jonjo Grisdale (also on keyboards).
The songs played were ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Comfortably Numb’, and the one that got everybody singing along, ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)’.
The event, organised by Bella Freud and Karma Nabulsi, took place at Kidlington in Oxfordshire, England and raised a most welcome £350,000.
Co-organizer of the benefit, Bella Freud, tells Rolling Stone that the two were in high spirits at the show, which suggests the two might have finally buried the hatchet. "David arrived first and then Roger came on and I saw Roger give David a hug," she says. "It was really lovely."
It was also revealed this week that British financier Arpad Busson donated £50,000 to get them to play "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2." "Some other people were also saying they'd give £200,000 for them to play one more song," Freud told Rolling Stone. "People were crying — really! I know it sounds corny, but it was magic. David and Roger — they looked so happy up there and they made something so beautiful happen."
