Ghost cut their headline performance slightly short at Hellfest in Clisson, France on Saturday night (18th June) after band leader Tobias Forge lost his voice.

Despite suffering from vocal issues, Tobias Forge battled on and performed 17 songs of Ghost’s usual 20-track setlist, however, he eventually called it quits after a confetti-strewn rendition of ‘Dance Macabre.’

With his voice audibly strained, Forge told the Hellfest crowd: “Thank you all for being here tonight. My voice is completely f---ed. I cannot take one other song. Thank you all for being here and helping us out. Have a nice rest of your evening.”

The early finish meant that Ghost didn’t perform live staple ‘Square Hammer’, however the performance did boast the live debut of ‘Impera’ track ‘Griftwood’ featuring the Sisters of Sin choir.

The fireworks finale had already been ditched due to the risk of wildfires during the intense heatwave in France with temperatures reaching 38°C at Hellfest.

Yesterday afternoon (19th June), Ghost posted a message from A Nameless Ghoul, which read: “Thank you all for your support at @hellfestopenair last night.

“We were all at the mercy of Mother Nature herself and she was clearly pissed off - All day with the fiery wrath of hell and at night with winds so strong that most of our stage production had to be struck down.

“Despite her rage, we had fun together - Very much thanks to YOU people. Ye rocked!

“Have a wonderful summer now and we’ll meet again in 2023.”

A colossal Lemmy statue was unveiled at Hellfest over the weekend, which was created by French artist and sculptor Caroline Brisset. Check out photos of the stunning sculpture right here:
