From the makers of the Rage Against The Machine Number 1 campaign...

Another campaign to usurp the Simon Cowell dominated Christmas charts is under way with the chosen song this year looking likely to be Nirvana's 'Smell's Like Teen Spirit'.

Two years ago, Rage Against The Machine defied the odds to steal number 1 from whatever X Factor contestant was wheeled out as the next great pop hope. The campaign was waged largely through social media and without a great deal of input from the band.

A spokesperson for the campaign told PopDash: "The anniversary of their album 'Nevermind' was certainly a factor, but just having a song you could mosh to for the Christmas No.1 was a brilliant moment in 2009 and I wanted that again. Nirvana rock...end of"

Adding: "My main concern was giving the charity Rhythmix a bit of a further push in getting their side of the story out there, but yes there will be some who are just interested in the single. That's fine as long as I've done my job and let them know what's going on regarding the charity situation. Topping the chart on Christmas day would certainly be the icing on the (Christmas) cake."

The campaign so far has around 55000 "fans" on Facebook, although if this campaign is to be successful it's likely it will need at least 500,000 downloads to get the number 1 spot.
