Gene Simmons snubs the idea of Ace Frehley returning to KISS
Days after performing with Ace Frehley for the first time in 16 years, Gene Simmons has categorically ruled out a KISS reunion with the original guitarist.
The two former bandmates united at The Children Matter Benefit Concert in St Louis last Wednesday night (20th September) where they performed three KISS tracks from the seventies; ‘Parasite’, ‘Cold Gin’ and ‘Shock Me’.
Alongside the Hurricane Harvey fundraiser, Gene has also co-written two songs for Ace’s next solo album – further fuelling speculation that a KISS reunion might be on the cards.
Now, in an interview with The Cassius Morris Show, Gene was asked whether Ace will ever get back together with KISS.
Emphatic in his response, Gene said: "That's not gonna happen. Ace has been in and out of the band three different times. That's enough."
Gene’s comments echo those of Paul Stanley, who told Billboard in February he has no intention of uniting with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss again.
“No (a reunion won’t happen). And that's not coming from any place of animosity,” Paul explained.
“I sang on Ace's most recent album and did a video with him. I have the connection and the reconnection and to celebrate the good things we've done together is terrific. The band as it is - I've played with Eric Singer for I think 25 years and Tommy's (Thayer) been in the band probably 15 years at this point. I have no thoughts of re-visiting the past.
“With that said I am happy to enhance or do whatever I can for anyone who has helped put me where I am, but that doesn't include getting hitched again to somebody I unhitched from.”
The four original members last shared a stage together in public at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in April 2014.
