Geezer Butler to reissue his three solo albums
They're available on vinyl for the first time
Black Sabbath co-founder, bassist and lyricist, Geezer Butler, will re-release his trio of solo albums next month.
The three albums – ‘Plastic Planet’ (1995), ‘Black Science’ (1997) and ‘Ohmwork’ (2005) – will be reissued on Friday 30th October 2020 via BMG.
Each record is available on vinyl for the first time ever, with both the CD and LP editions featuring newly updated cover artwork.
Originally released a quarter of a century ago in October 1995, Geezer’s debut solo album ‘Plastic Planet’ was released under his g//z/r moniker and featured Fear Factory’s Burton C. Bell on vocals, Pedro Howse on guitar and Deen Castronovo (Journey, The Dead Daisies) on drums.
Two years later he unleashed ‘Black Science’ under the name Geezer, and joined forces with Howse and Castronovo with the then unknown Clark Brown.
After partaking in the Black Sabbath reunion from 1997 onwards, Geezer finally released his third solo album ‘Ohmwork’ as GZR in 2005 and he was joined by Howse and Brown alongside St. Louis drummer Chad E Smith (not to be confused with the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer).
All three of Geezer Butler’s solo albums are available to pre-order right here.
Following Black Sabbath’s swansong show in February 2017, Geezer Butler formed The Deadland Ritual alongside vocalist Franky Perez (Apocalyptica, Scars on Broadway), drummer Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) and guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) in 2019.
The Deadland Ritual have released two single so far – ‘Down in Flames’ and ‘Broken and Bruised’ – and played a series of shows in 2019 including a slot at Download Festival.
Geezer told Planet Rock at Download Festival that the band definitely isn’t a supergroup, explaining: “We’d don’t class ourselves as a supergroup, I don’t know, it’s a bit of a vacant term for me. We’re four blokes getting together having fun at the moment and writing some good stuff.”
