Gabriel Snubs Hall Of Fame Induction

Genesis definitely won\'t be reunited at New York event

Peter Gabriel will not attend the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction of his former band Genesis.

The news was revealed by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame president Joel Peresman who says that a scheduling conflict will prevent Gabriel from attending the New York ceremony on 15 March.

Gabriel had already confirmed that he wouldn’t be reuniting for a performance with his former colleagues as they would not have time to prepare, telling Rolling Stone Magazine in January that "I learned at our last reunion in 1982 that you can’t just get up there. You have to rehearse,”

Genesis are amongst this year’s inductees, and they will be presented with the honour at the ceremony in New York next month alongside The Stooges, Abba, Jimmy Cliff and The Hollies.

Meanwhile in other Peter Gabriel news, he has revealed that Radiohead’s Thom Yorke is yet to respond to him with a reciprocal cover of one of his songs after Gabriel recorded a cover of Radiohead’s ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out).’

Gabriel told the Sun that he wasn’t sure if Yorke’s failure to respond was because he didn’t like the version of the Radiohead song that appears on new album Scratch My Back.

He revealed: "He originally wrote to say he wanted to do a version of 'Wallflower', but I haven't heard what he thinks of my version of 'Street Spirit'."

"Not everyone likes it and I've no real idea whether he likes it or hates it. We have a little clue, though," he said. "We gave out codes for the artists to listen to their songs on a stream and we could see how many times they've heard them. I think he's only streamed 'Street Spirit' once, which isn't a good sign, but who knows?"

Scratch My Back is a covers album by Gabriel and the intention was to have all of the artists whose songs were covered on the album respond with their own covers of Gabriel songs. It’s not known if these covers would then make up a new album in their own right or whether they will be released over time as individual tracks.

Scratch My Back is released today.
